Great Lakes Recovery Center provides Peer Support Services in the Newberry area. Peer Support focuses on providing an environment where people from the community, who are living in recovery, work with people who are currently receiving treatment for a substance abuse disorder. These Community based Peer Recovery Specialists serve as a resource and support system for others who are currently in treatment and who are living in recovery. Paradise Winter Hike

A wonderful Winter hike with snow and more!
8 to 8:30 am -- Meet for breakfast in Paradise. This is optional. More details as the place to meet is verified.
10am -- Hike off the Tahqua Trail Road along the Tahquamenon River. Meet at the 'Hunt Club' corner just west of Snug Harbor on Tahqua Trail Road. Plans will be finalized depending on conditions the day of the hike. Distance will be determined by your abilities and willingness to cover the trail. In other words, there may be hikes of several lengths depending on who shows up. Come and experience Winter and all her beauty!!
Bring snow shoes or cross country skis, clothing appropriate for the weather and activity, a whistle, water, camera, and a friend or two!

Latern Lit Snowshoe Hike

On Saturday from 1 Feb. 2020 to 29 Feb. 2020.

Enjoy winter by taking a lap on the 1-mile trail lit with over 75 kerosene lanterns. Snowshoes or cross country skis required. Free snowshoe rental, bonfire and refreshments. Bring a headlamp or flashlight. A sled is recommended to pull young children.
No reservations required; snowshoes available first-come-first-served basis.
All activities are free, but a Recreation Passport is required for entry. Purchase your Recreation Passport at the park entrance or at the Secretary of State when you renew your vehicle tabs.

Take a 1-hour snowshoe hike with the park naturalist at the Upper Falls. Blaze a trail through fresh powder, or follow the tracks of the person in front of you. A limited number of snowshoes free to borrow - no pre-registration required. Meet at the Upper Falls Fact Shack (near the bonfire).

Cupcake Wars

Calling all Luce County bakers and cupcake lovers! The Newberry Area Ministerial Association is hosting a cupcake wars to benefit the Luce County Heating Fund. The event will take place in the classrooms at St. Gregory Catholic Church. Bakers will register and bake a set amount of cupcakes for judging. There is no entry fee for bakers. Entry fee for spectators will be $5 and will include light drinks and samples of all competing cupcakes. Cupcakes will also be available to purchase just in time for Valentines Day! Come enjoy some great cupcakes, purchase some sweets for your sweetheart, and contribute to a great cause. Falling in Love With Winter Hiking

8 Feb. 2020

How much do you LOVE hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing? Fall in love all over again with the best outdoor Winter sports on the North Country Trail and the Giant Pines Loop and take in views of the Upper Falls at Tahquamenon Falls State Park.
Morning hike is at 10am (starting at the Upper Falls parking lot) and is a looped hike that includes the Upper Falls and the Giant Pines Loop that the NCT overlays for quite a while. There is an option to follow the NCT off the loop to view the 500' beaver dam and new boardwalk built in 2017 just off the loop. The loop is about 4 miles long and is groomed for skiing.
After that we will lunch at the Camp 33 Tahquamenon Brewery located there by the parking lot.
After Lunch there will be an option to cover some of the other trails in the park!
