Tahquamenon Country Sled Dog Race
Race Location: Rainbow Lodge—County Road 423 at the mouth of the TwoHeartedRiver in NorthernLuceCounty. Races begin at 9:30 am. Events include: 12-dog pro and 8-dog pro races with $7500 purse, 6-dog and 4-dog sportsman classes, 2-3 dog youth class, and skijoring. Over one hundred dog team are expected! GLSDA Dog Sled Races, race location Rainbow Lodge The Two Hearted River Sled Dog Race is one of the several professional SPRINT dogsledding events managed by Great Lakes Sled Dog Association. Drivers Meeting will be held at the race site on Saturday morning at 8:00AM prior to the start of the event. 3rd annual N.Y.B.A. Youth Basketball Tournament at the J.L.DeCookHigh School Gymnasium in Newberry.
20 boys and girls teams in grades 4th through 6th grade from Newberry, Engadine, Manistique, Munising, Gladstone, Marquette and Ishpeming will participate in a double elimination format. Games are set to begin on Saturday February 2nd at 8:30 am and continue until 9:30 pm in the evening. Games will continue on Sunday February 3rd starting at 8:30 am and continue until 5:00 pm with first place awards and medals presented on Sunday.
The public is invited to watch our area youth compete. Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for children. A concession stand will be provided, tournament t-shirts for sale and various raffles throughout the weekend.

February16, 2008 The Curtis Winter Carnival will be held on Saturday. Events include a chili cook –off, music, food booths, bake sale, kid’s games, cake walk, children’s piñata, and ice golfing, turkey bowling, kid’s Mimi sled challenge, Curtis Fish Coop ice fishing and Fireworks sponsored by Three Lakes Area Fireworks Council.
February 16, 2008 The 16th annual Vintage & Antique snowmobile show will be held on Saturday in downtown Naubinway. The Show is from 10:00 and to 3:00pm; there are food booths & a swap area. March 1, 2008 CARDBOARD CLASSIC at the Ski Hill on Hamilton Lake Rd. Race Starts at 12:00 noon. Registration is $5.00 and you can register the day of the race. You can build your racer out of cardboard tape & glue only. Please remember your racing helmet.
March 13th and 15th HOOPER HOME COMPANION presented by the Curtis Community Arts Council. Starting at 6:30 p.m. at Chamberlin’s Ole Forest Inn. A wonderful evening of music, skits and jokes. They will have your traditional lunch of bean soup, sandwiches, homemade cookies. Their will be two $50 Cash prize’s. Four $25.00 Door Prizes. Silent Auction. Ernesto is a Professor and Chair of the Photography Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His artwork is held in private and public collections in museums and institutions in the United States and Europe.
April 26th , 2008 Saturday the Newberry Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner will start with Cocktails at 6:00pm, Dinner at 7:00pm and Awards and entertainment by Hypnotist Jim Hoke at 8:00pm.
