Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis, presents a chamber music concert. This program features the “True North Quartet,” a string quartet group from the Ann Arbor area, performing a program entitled “A Night at the Movies.” Violinists Paul Lundin, Karen Donato, and violist Joseph Deller return for their eighth year playing together for the Erickson Center. Katri Ervamaa will be the guest cellist this summer.
Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings” has been heard in many movies over the years. True North will perform the entire quartet from which this excerpt comes, the Quartet opus 11. Movie composers owe much to the pioneers of movie music in the 1930s. Among those greats was Erich Korngold whose film credits include the original “Robin Hood”, “Captain Blood” and many others. Korngold’s Second String Quartet will top the evening off with soaring melodies and a very wild waltz.
